Like in most parts of the country the GAA club plays a pivotal role in providing a healthy outlet for many of our youth and also in maintaining a strong sense of community in the area. The catchment area of the Taghmon Camross club accords with the parish boundaries and as such draws membership from quite a wide area. GAA has been popular in the parish and was played under a number of other club names since the early days of the GAA. Trinity Stars, Taghmon Fear Nots and Carroreigh United were some of the many such names. You can read much more about club history in a great article by Paddy O’Reilly on our club website – https://sites.google.com/a/gaa.ie/taghmon-camross-gaa/home/history

Today the club has members at Academy age (3/4 years old) all the way to adult, including camogie and LGFA teams. At adult level the team is represented at Intermediate and Junior B levels. In the last few years the club has played and won the Intermediate Football title (2016) and were recently defeated in the Intermediate Hurling final by a very strong Oulart the Ballagh team.  This represents great progress as the club was playing hurling at Junior level only a few years ago.

The club has been ably represented at county level by many players over the years. Most recently Ciara Banville has been a very consistent performer for Wexford’s LGFA team which has reached two All Ireland Intermediate Finals and were most unlucky to fall just short against Laois this year.
The club is managed by a very active Committee with Tom Banville as chairperson and Marion Doyle as Club Secretary. The Committee are very ably supported by a large number of volunteers who do fantastic work to keep our grounds and community centre in good condition, manage our many teams and manage fundraising and other important activities. These activities could not proceed with the assistance and support of our many supporters and sponsors including our main sponsor Liam Neville Developments.
The club is actively looking for ways to attract more members and bring more community based activities to the Centre. If you’d like to follow the clubs activities on a day to day basis our Facebook page is frequently updated – https://www.facebook.com/taghmoncamrossgaaclub
and the Twitter page is updated regularly with fixture details, scores and lotto results amongst other things (@taghmoncamross). The club also has an Instagram account which you can follow – (taghmon_camross_gaa) The club also submits regular updates to the Parish Newsletter and the Wexford People notes.
